The $150-$200k field is getting extremely crowded these days, with some amazing machinery. The original NSX was the everyday supercar, easy to drive, park, see out of. Tried and true mechanicals. And for the price of a Viper (this is 1994, remember) you had something that could actually be driven like the Legend in the stall next door while keeping up with Ferrari’s. In the current iteration, I see nothing spectacular or special about it. Certainly nothing that would make me choose it over a 570s. I don’t see anyone choosing the NSX for the same reason nobody chooses the RLX or the TLX... Sure its nice enough, but there is simply not enough compelling content. The competition is simply better.

The 570S wins for me.
Unless I want some open air motoring and/or a third pedal...in which case it’ll be a 991 Targa 4 GTS 7MT.

911 turbo (could you get a S for that range?) plz

But you can have a TT V6! Those are all the rage now.

Or just wait until they release the inevitable 570S Spyder

That’s true, that is supposedly arriving in 2017.

I haven’t checked in a while but is there actually a Targa 4 GTS with a third pedal? I thought that was turning into one of those frumpy snow country models.

Although there is something to be said about having a manual ‘box in the Porsche... I just wish they made a RWD version of the Targa :(

People always remember the original NSX as a “poor man’s supercar”, but it really wasn’t that fast. It was more just a mid-engine sports car, that looked like a supercar.
The new one is actually going to be a supercar. It has the power and the looks, not just the looks.

Yep, 570S for me all the way. Additionally, they have teased for way too long. Who knows, maybe it will be an awesome and popular car, but for some reason my gut is telling me that it’s not gonna be a super winner.

There is! At least you spec it in the configurator. That is by far the most desireable 991 model to me until the 991 R is a thing.

Dude. I’d love a RWD manual Targa. Maybe with the wider track of the Targa 4. And Turbo S centerlock wheels. And the 4 liter motor from the GT3 RS...yeah I’d be okay with that.

I'll take used 458 for $200(k), Alex.

Very cool, I'll have to check on that. A P-car marketing guy said the Targa4 GTS would be PDK only soon due to the lack of orders for the third pedal. Could have been explaining a different market.

I know it’s not a supercar per se, but in that price range, it’d have to be a S65 coupe.

That's the dream right there... Perfect modern 911 in my opinion. I've heard people say the Targa is ugly, but screw that, I think it's awesome.

Those people are dumb. The Targa is stunning in pictures and in person. It is to me the most desirable Porsche in the lineup.

Well, it’s possible that the 7MT is special order only. That would not surprise me.

Yeah, the Targa looks great to me, it’s like the perfect mix between throwback and modern design. As an open-air car it’s great too, you get the perks of having no roof, without the blah shape of the cabrio. Like you said though, I wish there were more options for Targa customization though. AWD does nothing for me in that context and having the 4.0 in there would be the shit.
I guess I can dream...

Yep. If I’m buying a car in the $150-300K range, I’m getting a McLaren. I’d prefer a 12C/650S Spider, but the improvements made to the 570S are damn compelling.

He’s not asking for much, Porsche!!!

Chris, on the Hooniverse podcast, pointed out that since the NSX was first announced, McLaren became a company, announced and released the 12C, made the P1 alongside the Porsche 918 and the LaFerrari, rite red the 12C, and moved on to a second generation of models. And the NSX still hasn’t actually been launched.

Dude, Porsche should totally let people configure their car entirely a la carte. Think of the crazy possibilities!

I completely agree, but unfortunately, governmental emissions regulations, insurance testing, etc. would make it prohibitively expensive.

The Targa looks great, but it’s the heaviest 911 variant and needlessly complex. If I buy a 911, I want to be able to own it for a long time, and that mechanism seems like one that I would not want to risk owning outside of warranty...

This is true, the top mechanism is a bit heavier than I’d like and probably a bit more complicated as well, but it’s so damn cool... A way to save some of the weight the roof mechanism adds on is to get rid of the AWD :P
